Gene M. Ransom III, a life long resident of Queen Anne’s County, is a graduate of Queen Anne’s County public schools, an honors graduate of University of Maryland and a graduate of University of Baltimore School of Law. He is a partner in the law firm of Fogleman & Ransom and serves as an attorney for the Maryland State Medical Society, MedChi.
In September 1998 the people of Queen Anne’s County elected Gene to the Democratic Central Committee. Gene served as chair of the Committee from 1998 to 2001. Gene Ransom works for his community through the Queen Anne’s County and Maryland State Bar Association. He is an active member of the Queen Anne’s County Chamber of Commerce, serving on their Board of Directors and as Chair of the Legislative Committee from 1999 to 2001. Gene is a former member of the Queen Anne’s County Youth Drug and Alcohol Commission which attempts to educate children on the dangers of drugs and alcohol.
Furthermore, Gene Ransom served on the Queen Anne’s County Board of Education’s Testing Committee. The Testing Committee prepared a report for the Queen Anne's County Commissioners on the future of standardized testing in Queen Anne’s County public schools. Gene is an active member of the Queen Anne’s County United Way Board and the Kent Island Yacht Club.
During the 1998 session Governor Glendening appointed, and the Maryland State Senate confirmed, Gene to the Maryland Nursing Home Administrator’s Board, which he served from 1998 to 2000. The Board is responsible for the licensure and discipline of Maryland nursing home administrators.
Gene also served the Governor as a member of the Governor’s Forestry Advisory Commission. The Commission advises the Department of Natural Resources on forestry and preservation issues. An active leader in the Maryland Democratic party, Gene is a past President of the Queen Anne’s County Democratic Club.
He is a former President of the Young Democrats of Maryland and a member of the executive committee of the Maryland Democratic Party. Gene worked in the Office of State Senator Jim Simpson during the 1991 legislative session, and was employed as a member of Delegate Kenneth Montague’s staff during the 1995 legislative session.
Gene has volunteered and worked on numerous campaigns including Clinton-Gore in 1996, Glendening for Governor in 1994 and 1998, Pinder for Congress in 1998, Bill Bradley for President 2000, as well as many other state and local races.
